There are three sections: Multistate Performance Test (MPT), which consists of two 90-minute tasks; Multistate Essay Examination (MEE), which consists of six 30-minute essays; and Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), which consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, done in six hours. Day 1 is six hours and includes the MPT then MEE, and Day 2 is six hours and only includes the MBE.

There are fourteen subjects; the first seven are tested in both the MBE and MEE, and the last seven are only tested in the MEE. The subjects are: Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, Torts, and (the following are only MEE) Agency and Partnership, Conflict of Laws, Corporations and LLCs, Decedent's Estates, Family Law, Secured Transactions, and Trusts and Future Interests
